A child is stuck at home during lockdown and his family is driving him crazy! Can you ever be alone in the middle of a crowd? Turns out you can. This story is told using whimsical rhymes and is perfect for anyone who needs a little alone time.

This story is called, Lock Down

I want to be alone today,
But simply cannot get away.

From mother, who is always near,
And father, who is always here.

We cannot go outside you see.
We must stay home for our safety.

In the kitchen, I will go
And there’s my sister, still in tow.

If I try to go to bed,
My brother’s snores ring in my head.

I dare not try to go and pee
For there I know they’ll surely be.

I know that they are not to blame,
But they are driving me insane!

Father baking sourdough.
Mother watching a dumb show.

Is it true? Can it be? 
I’ve had it with my family?

This is a prison, not a home.
I need for once to be alone!

Then dad leaned down and kissed my head,
Don’t worry dear, he simply said.
Our house is small, that much is true,
But there are things that you can do.

Just close your eyes, create a space,
Your own amazing special place;
That’s just for you and you alone.
Your castle right inside your home.

Then take a breath, but nice and slow.
Then let it out, a gentle flow.
Each breath will make your castle stronger.
Keep out the world a little longer. 

So I sat down and closed my eyes,
And suddenly to my surprise,
A house appeared, atop a tree.
The greatest house you’d ever see!

And when I breathed, the tree grew taller,
And all my problems became smaller.
And soon I found myself alone,
Within a crowd, inside my home.

And from them on I felt quite free.
I had a place that’s just for me.
And living together wasn’t that hard.
Except for my brother, he can sleep in the yard.
