Here are some fun facts about Bloo Burds:

Since his early days of recording raps on cassette tapes, Bloo Burds has always had a knack for genre-blending and musical experimentation. Within the confines of his bedroom, he explores synth-heavy psychedelic soundscapes, reflecting an eclectic array of influences. Inspired by The Beatles, The Beach Boys, and Animal Collective, his music emphasizes introspective lyricism, whimsical melodies, and harmony-driven vocal arrangements. His discography encompasses a wide variety of genres, including hip hop, baroque pop, synthpop, and psychedelia.

In this special musical episode, I collaborate with Toronto musician Bloo Burds to create a rap version of my poem, Mess Monster. We hope you enjoy it.

There’s a door in my room that’s always shut tight,
For what lies inside gonna give you a fright.
It’s something I created, I must confess:
It’s a giant, ferocious, hungry MESS.

Mother asked me if I cleaned my room,
I said yes. I'll get to it real soon.
If she checks she will find it clean.
Not a single spec of mess to be seen.

BIG... MESS... HIPPOPOTAMESS.
MESS...

I gotta secret.
I said that I cleaned my room. I lied.
Hey, closet I got a mess to hide!
Every day I stuff more inside.

It started off small, many years ago
With loads of dirty clothes, it started to grow.
Books I read. Toys I put aside.
The mess ate it all. Made a real pigsty

It's been a few years and my mess has grown.
Today this disarray has a mind of its own!
Keep the door shut, never budge it an inch,
Cause if the mess gets out, we gonna be in a pinch.

But then one day, the closet door burst!
I tried to get out, but it grabbed me first.
It pulled me in, looking eager to feed.
It needed more mess. What it wanted was me!

BIG... MESS... HIPPOPOTAMESS.
MESS...

The mess dragged me all across the room.
I needed a plan and I needed it soon.
Picked up some socks that I left on the floor,
Put them right back in their place in the drawer.

Shelved all the books that I already read.
I even swept up the crumbs in the bed.
The mess got scared, tried to lead me astray,
But I kept on putting my things away.

The mess fought hard, but I did not yield.
Neatness was my sword, tidiness my shield.
The battle raged on till the mess was gone.
Till my room was clean. Wait a minute, hang on!

What's that hiding underneath the bed?
An old juice box and a crust of bread?
I guess I should try to keep it spotless,
But that's ok it's just a little mess.
